viaSim has recently completed the first phase of development of its SimBLOX agent-based simulation environment. SimBLOX is a revolutionary method for developing complex simulations. Instead of attempting to attack a problem from a macro-level, which often proves extremely difficult and often impossible, the SimBLOX environment allows a user to develop "generic" building block simulations that connect together to form a macro-level model.

A good example of this approach is a supply chain simulation. A generic SimBLOX model is developed to represent an organization in the supply chain. This generic model is then replicated numerous times, once for each organization in the supply chain. For each organization model, specific input data are used, which now makes each replication of the generic model unique so that it corresponds to a single organization.



Yet, the SimBLOX approach is not just limited to supply chains. It can be used in any situation where many of the entities involved share similar attributes or structures. The four primary applications of SimBLOX so far are in the following fields:
